Let's Get Healthy!

I am so excited for the next round of 6FIT to begin! I participated in my first 6FIT last September, about 2 months after discovering DanceFIT studio. But before I start to ramble on about my love for DanceFIT and the 6FIT program, let me introduce myself...

Hi! I’m Lindy!

Me at my college graduation
Learning how to stay fit and eat well has been a challenge ever since I graduated high school. As a kid, I was very active, taking dance lessons most nights of the week, gymnastics/acrobatics, and cheerleading 6 days a week. I was also very bad at sitting still (I still am!) and was always looking for an activity to do. Needless to say, I never had to think about what I was eating.

Once I got to college, I no longer had organized sports to keep me active. I also no longer had my mom to cook me healthy meals and I had to find my way around the school cafeteria with no idea how unhealthy seemingly healthy foods can be (ceasar salad with dressing...it’s a salad, how could it be bad for me?! Oops!). I finally had to learn that it takes control and commitment to stay in shape.

I started to go to the gym and took a nutrition class. The gym was, well..the gym. I would go and do some cardio and then wander around the weights, hoping I would find a way to use them correctly. I would go to the gym first thing in the morning many days so that I wouldn’t have time to talk myself out going throughout the day. I knew I needed to go, but I did not like it!

My dad and me running the half marathon

I took up running and found that I LOVE it! I went to college in South Carolina, so running outdoors was an option year round. I started participating in a lot of 5K races and used the annual Charleston Bridge Run 10K as extra incentive for my brother and dad to come visit me at school! In 2010, I finished my first half marathon with my dad. We had so much fun and I would love to do another, but I think it’s safe to say it’s unlikely I’ll ever run a full marathon.

After graduating college I took a job working for a healthcare company where I sit at a computer all day. Until this current semester, I was spending many nights sitting in the 4 hours classes that I need to take to go to graduate school. (I’m currently taking the semester off to apply to schools full-time). I am sedentary most days and I do not like it! Luckily, my family, my friends and my boyfriend know how restless I am, and we are constantly doing active things together. I love to take long walks, especially on the beach, and I am obsessed with my Just Dance Wii game.

Now back to DanceFIT..

My roommate, Alina, and me after Alissa's Cardio & Core class
Last summer I got an email from Rue La La for DanceFIT studio. After my very first balletFIT class with Gina, I was hooked. I try and find excuses to get out of other after work commitments so that I can make it to a class. Taking both classes in the studio and virtually at DanceFIT makes me feel like I’m part of a community of women all working together to achieve the same fitness goal, and it’s awesome.

I heard about 6FIT and decided to challenge myself. I’m so glad I did! I became addicted. 6FIT is an amazing opportunity to push yourself into being as healthy as possible. I am so excited to begin the next 6FIT on April 22nd and I’m looking forward to sharing my journey to a healthier me with y’all.

Good luck everyone :)
